First off let me tell you what the goal of this website is. I invented the Punk Rock Capitalist moniker because it is the perfect description for the way I (and I believe many others) think and live their lives. So, let me explain.
The Punkrock part of The Punkrock Capitalist has little do with my affinity for hard-charging music but more with a healthy suspicion for perceived authority, status quo, and Dogma. What I mean by that is this: I will not simply accept what I have been told as Gospel, but I will do my own thinking, sift information through my own"filter" and deduce a decision or opinion based on my own reasoning. Or in other words, I don't need anyone to tell me how to think.
The Capitalist part of the name comes from what the word capital means. Having Capital is owning a good, having monetary value, or "something" to invest. But we often forget that the word capital does not only mean money. There is social capital, intellectual capital, emotional capital and all these refer to deeply individual human traits like being responsible and dedicated to your job and family. I believe that first and foremost, the Capital human beings have and should focus on accumulating is Virtue. Some examples of being virtuous in my opinion are learning how to be responsible with money, how to use your words in a way to inform or help others, or even being healthy and living a long life to make a positive impact on the world, all these things require capital of some kind. We usually acquire this Capital through things like experience, education, and experimentation.
So, what is a PunkRock Capitalist? You might be! If you are an individual thinker, are always looking to enhance your Capital whatever that might be, and have a healthy dose of suspicion against the "Establishment", you might just be a Punk Rock Capitalist!
